Dina Mitrani has been working in the art world for over 30 years. After receiving a Bachelor’s in art history at the University of Michigan and a Master’s from Hunter College, she worked at Christie’s Auction House, Mary-Ann Martin Fine Art and Throckmorton Fine Art in New York City. In 2000, with a hunch that the garment district where her parents had a clothing factory was slowly becoming an area for galleries and art studios, she returned to her native Miami.

In 2002, together with her sister Rhonda, a filmmaker, video artist and founder/director of The Screening Room Miami, they were pioneers in the creation of the Wynwood Art District by organically converting their parent’s clothing factory into artist studios, art galleries, design shops and an acting studio.  In 2009, they co-founded the Women of Wynwood, a non-profit initiative to provide job opportunities for the women of the Lotus House shelter.

Dina Mitrani Gallery opened in 2008 and specializes in international contemporary photography. The gallery represents emerging and mid-career artists, and offers artists talks and lectures on photography as well as photo-based objects and books. The gallery is committed to promoting its artists, as well as working with other photography galleries, dealers and curators to bring unique fine art photography to Miami.  The gallery’s mission is not only to exhibit and promote photography but also to educate and be a resource for the art community.  The gallery has received accolades such as “Best Gallery Exhibition” by the Miami New Times in 2013.

Dina has served as a board member of the Miami Art Dealers Association, and the Photography Center of the History Miami Museum. She has juried many photo competitions, leads art talks to students on the university and high school level and reviews artist portfolios at national photography festivals such as Photolucida Portland, FotoFest in Houston, the Palm Springs Photo Festival, Atlanta Celebrates Photography and the Miami Street Photography Festival.

Dina has been the art advisor for various real estate developers, curating the art collections of the Hyatt in South Beach and the Marriott hotels on Miami Beach, the Medical District, Coconut Grove and Sunny Isles.

As natives of this amazing city, the Mitrani sisters’ interest and passion for the growing arts and culture community in Miami is evident in their their dedication to lens-based work, their Wynwood history, and their collaborative work with other local institutions.

Dina lives in Miami with her two teenage daughters.  Rhonda lives in Miami Beach with her husband and three children.
